Description

The easy to use Home Menopause Test is a rapid indication of your Follicle-Stimulating hormone (FSH) in urine, aiding the early detection of menopause. It can also be used to screen for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and ovarian failure in non-perimenopausal women with persistently elevated levels of FSH.

Currently, menopause is not scientifically diagnosed until a woman’s menstrual periods have stopped for one full year. However, the varying period of time leading up to menopause is called perimenopause which can include a variety of problematic symptoms and related health issues.

The female hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle can change, as the body produces less oestrogen and produces more FSH during the perimenopausal stage. Detecting this early means that you can take appropriate steps to keep your body healthy and prevent health risks associated with menopause, which include osteoporosis, high cholesterol and blood pressure, and an increased risk of heart disease.

Symptoms

Monitoring your FSH levels regularly can assist with earlier diagnosis and monitoring the success of treatments:

  • Hot flushes
  • Irregular menstrual cycles
  • Sleep disorders
  • Weight gain and slow metabolism
  • Hair loss
  • Anxiety and mood swings
  • Mental and physical fatigue
  • Vaginal dryness and low libido

How It Works

This rapid one-step lateral flow immunoassay test uses 2 midstream strips to detect the level of FSH in urine above 25mIU/mL for self-testing and is mailed directly to you.

The easy-to-use CE-approved testing kit is shipped within 24 business hours.

Items Tested

Elevated FSH levels will show as a positive test result on the midstream test and indicate a perimenopause or menopause stage.

▶ The test provides 2 sets of results and the results can then be used to consult for further medical advice or to implement an appropriate health regime.

Note: You will require a method of timing the process.

Science

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is produced by your pituitary gland, which is a small gland located underneath the brain. FSH is a glycoprotein gonadotropin and is secreted in response to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) released by the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is a small but crucial part of the brain that maintains internal balance by regulating processes in the human body.

FSH is an important sex hormone in sexual development and various functions including:

In women, it aids in controlling the menstrual cycle and stimulates the growth of healthy eggs in the ovaries. These FSH levels change throughout the menstrual cycle, with the highest levels produced just prior to an egg being released by the ovary (ovulation stage).

In men, this hormone helps control the production of sperm and normally, FSH levels do not vary.

In children, FSH levels are low until puberty, when levels begin to rise. For girls, it prompts the ovaries to produce oestrogen. In boys, it initiates the testes to make testosterone.

An increase or decrease in FSH levels can cause a variety of problems, including infertility, abnormal menstrual cycles in women, low sex drive in men, and disruptions to puberty in children.

FSH functions in association with another hormone called lutinising hormone (LH) to control sexual functions. Therefore a lutinising hormone (LH) test often accompanies an FSH test for the diagnosis of PCOS or ovarian failure.

An FSH rapid test midstream is a rapid one-step lateral flow immunoassay for qualitative FSH detection in urine. This test uses an antibody combination that includes monoclonal anti-FSH antibodies to selectively detect elevated FSH levels and presents the results in the form of visible coloured lines alongside a procedural control to confirm sufficient urine specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques.
